Managing Emotions During Divorce

By Robin Roshkind, Esquire, West Palm Beach, Florida

In addition to managing money during divorce, it is very difficult to manage your emotions.  You may have a cheater spouse, or an abuser spouse and just want to get even.  Or you may be the cheater or abuser and you just want to get out.

Managing emotions during divorce is tricky but necessary.  I try to explain to my clients that divorce primarily is about children and money, not about power and stuff.  But this is a hard concept to grasp when you are in the middle of a divorce fighting over stupid insignificant things.

Sometimes it is like a continuum, on the least offensive side is resentment and on the most offensive side is revenge.  Put anger, hate, mistrust, hurt in the middle.  With emotions like these flying, it is difficult to stay on course to getting the divorce done intelligently.   Add to the mix a lack of self confidence, confusion, inability to focus, hyperventilating, shakes, headaches and anxiety, and you could end up being a big mess who is difficult to deal with.   This applies equally to men and women.

The best advice I can give you if your emotions are not controllable, is to seek the help of a therapist who can assist you in putting things in perspective.   Then seek legal counsel to sort it all out in an intelligent manner.  If you are thinking about getting a divorce in Palm Beach County, call one of the divorce lawyers at ROBIN ROSHKIND, P.A. at 561 835 9091 or click on the Firm’s web site at for more information.
