You Can’t Force Divorce Settlement

By Robin Roshkind, Esquire, West Palm Beach, Florida

You have decided to get a divorce and you are afraid to tell your spouse about it until you have seen a divorce lawyer.  This is very common.  You need to find out your rights and options beforehand so you can prepare yourself mentally, financially and logistically.

But even if you think the marriage is over, your spouse may not agree, or may not even have a clue.  Upon learning the news, there becomes a very angry, vindictive, litigious person on the other end of your relationship.

You can only do so much to reach an amicable divorce or a collaborative divorce.  If emotions are running high, if there is cheating in the marriage, or a loss of interest in the spouse, settlement may not be an option.  Jealousy, spite, distruction, violence, hiding, secrets, and other such emotions and behaviors do not pave the way for a peaceful settlement.

Even if one spouse wants to settle the divorce in order to experience less stress, spend less money on attorneys and just get it over with, the other spouse may not agree due to emotional state of things.  There is not much you can do except ride the tide and defend yourself to the best of your lawyers ability.  If you are thinking about getting a divorce in Palm Beach County, Florida, call one of the divorce lawyers at ROBIN ROSHKIND, P.A. at 561-835-9091 or click on the Firm’s web site at
