In Divorce, It Is Possible To Miss The Obvious

By Robin Roshkind, Esquire, West Palm Beach, Florida

If you are getting a divorce, and do not have legal counsel, you could be penny wise and pound foolish.  You may not know your legal rights, or if you do, there may be something you over look inadvertently.

For example, wives don’t often know that their jewelry received during marriage as gifts is marital property.  Husbands may not know that their retirement plans are marital to be shared by the wife even if you did all the work to earn the retirement account.  Cash value of life insurance is also marital, if accumulated during the marriage.

If a spouse has purchased a home prior to the marriage, and then placed both names on the deed after the marriage, the purchasing spouse has a right to back out his/her initial downpayment before splitting any net proceeds.

There are so many things that a non lawyer may over look, so it is best to find out what your rights are by consulting legal counsel.  If you are thinking about getting a divorce in Palm Beach County, Florida, call one of the divorce lawyers at ROBIN ROSHKIND, P.A. at 561-835-9091 or click on the Firm’s web site at for more information.
